A Gathering of Minds
In September, the quiet resort town of Hua Hin, played host to the first ever SPAASIA Wellness Summit. This truly global event was a success beyond expectations. 350 delegates from the spa, wellness and health sectors, as well as investors and government representatives and top executives and professionals from the travel and hotel industries from 30 countries descended upon this resort city.
Themed MASTERS ON MASTERS: A GATHERING OF MINDS, the three-day Summit evolved into a journey, where delegates, speakers and participants alike discussed with honesty and openness the future directions of the wellness industry as a whole. They opened up to new possibilities of approaching well-worn paths. They ventured into untouched waters and discovered an ocean of new possibilities. Integrated Wellness is the future. When we come together and share our work and passion, we are in a powerful position to grow far beyond our expectations. And whilst this year’s Summit has successfully achieved the first step, the next Wellness Summit 2006 promises to go beyond...
The Summit also consisted of several fascinating events including the second SpaAsia Crystal Awards 2005 for those that were acknowledged and honoured for their outstanding efforts. A Pre-Summit Study Tour in Bangkok was organized with several offshoot activities. These included study tours and spa forum for professionals, trainers and practitioners.
At the Summit, participants were able to hear first-hand, the views of masters who shared their experiences and life stories. Here, a panel of experts shared their views on the topic and the members of the floor were invited to share theirs, and pose questions. This active interaction and riveting discussions of the topic gave
participants a more dynamic involvement than they expected. In addition, SpaAsia also introduced the concept of Professional Development Sessions. Targeted more at operators, rather than academics, these sessions, focused more on topics that were relevant to a wellness operator. These sessions, usually in smaller groups, pervaded cosy, interactive sessions where lively discussions were not uncommon.
