On the Brink of a Renaissance
It is one thing to talk about the approaching global revolution in wellness – it is quite another to experience it. Blending the widest and wildest spectrum of healing traditions from around the globe, three hundred twenty impassioned delegates joined hearts and minds at the SpaAsia Wellness Summit in Hua Hin, Thailand to help raise this subtle revolution to the forefront of human consciousness. Unlike most conferences, this powerful gathering of visionaries, healers, and wellness pioneers was more about the enlightened delegates than the panel of distinguished international speakers.

I had the good fortune of interacting with many of the delegates personally and found in each an inspired speaker, teacher and far-sighted leader. I hope the entire world will one day have an opportunity to hear their fascinating life stories, to be touched by them as deeply as I have been. They have enlivened my spirit in ways I could not have imagined. I will be forever grateful for their inspiration.

The awakening and activation of the human spirit is a telltale sign of the new renaissance of thought and action we are embracing as a people. As individuals going about our busy lives, we may not always recognize the role we are playing in orchestrating a new crescendo in human consciousness – but that role is real, and it is vital to our well-being as a species. We are the midwives and mothers of a new kind of healing, a new kind of human-ness that transcends boundaries, both natural and man-made. The gift of caring we bring to the world is not confined by colour, race, or national origin. Its impact will be felt in hearts far beyond any artificially constructed social or economic borders. Many are ready to follow this higher path. Those who participated in the Summit will help lead us to it.

The first Renaissance marked the transition from medieval times to the modern world. It began in the 14th century, inspired by the work of Galileo, Descartes, Michaelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci – great men whose intellectual heirs would labour for three centuries to bring about the greatest revival of art, literature, and learning in Europe’s history.

Today’s Renaissance began in the last quarter of the 20th century in the heart of Asia, but it will soon spread to the rest of the world – guided this time by the actions of enlightened women. The disproportionately high number of women in attendance at the Summit stands as a living testament to the special times in which we live. As a man, I honour and admire the Shakti female energy rising across our planet – it bodes well for our future. If we each do our part, our children will inherit a rich legacy of tolerance, understanding and creative synergy we ourselves can only imagine.

Wherever I appear these days, it is evident that everyone senses the very special nature of the times in which we live. For the first time in history, we have begun to fully appreciate and embrace the connectivity and energetic interdependence of all living things. We are discovering new truths that validate our higher instincts for peace, wellness and happiness. We are growing, and we are doing so at an astonishing rate.

For the first time in history, both halves of our being – the intellectual and the intuitive – are being united as one. We are becoming whole.
