PROF GERARD BODEKER
Editor-In-Chief of WHO Global Atlas/Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at Columbia University, New York

Prof. Gerard Bodeker researches and advises on international public policy on traditional, complementary & alternative medicine. He is a senior faculty member in public health at the University of Oxford Medical School and Research Associate at the Oxford Centre for International Development. An Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at Columbia University, New York, he has also been Chair of the Commonwealth Working Group on Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine (TCAM) and carried out work on medicinal plant conservation for various UN agencies (World Health Organisation, the World Bank, the Global Environment Facility and the UN Food & Agriculture Organisation). With colleagues, he produced a book on Medicinal Plants for Forest Conservation and Healthcare. He chaired the International Advisory Panel to the Government of Malaysia for the development of the herbal sector and is international editor of the Malaysian-based Journal of Tropical Medicinal Plants. Prof. Bodeker is co-editor of a new book on 'Understanding the Global Spa Industry' (2008), published by Elsevier Press, Oxford.

Regional Vice President of Mandara Spa

Trent Munday joined Mandara Spa in January 2005 after 14 years in the hotel industry, most recently with Six Senses Hotels & Resorts and COMO Hotels & Resorts where he was the opening General Manager of Uma Ubud, Bali. Having worked in Australia, USA, Thailand, Maldives & Indonesia, he has gained considerable experience in the hospitality industry. Trent also spent two years at a senior management level with the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games where he was responsible for a number of portfolios including the accommodation and related services for over 17,000 Athletes and officials in The Village.

Trent’s role is to manage and develop Mandara Spa’s existing business and set the future strategic direction for the company. “Put simply, my job is to deliver on our promise to our partners and maintain our position as the market leader.”, says Trent.

Joerg Demuth is the founder of The Organic Spa, a luxury spa brand, and the founder of ANIKA Organic Luxury, a holistic certified organic range of spa products. Since graduating as a Food Technologist specializing in Cosmetics and Detergents, Joerg has become a leading personality in the natural organic field in Europe. His father, a Chemical Engineer and his mother, a Master Chemist raised the family on fresh biodynamic fruits and vegetables grown in the family garden. Joerg’s mother, who learned about aromatherapy, essential oils and the unique power of plants from her grandmother, passed on the knowledge to him. Joerg is a member of the BDIH Expert Standards Group for “controlled natural skincare” and Founding Member of, and Representative for Naturland, on the European Standards Committee for Organic and Natural Skincare. A founding partner of the Strawberry Hill Group Worldwide, Eric is recognized as a leading expert in the field of medical spa and wellness centre development. He returned to the Strawberry Hill Group as president and CEO after a 21-year career as Senior Manager with Procter and Gamble. He is currently the president of the International Medical Spa Association – Worldwide. He is also on the executive committee of the Day Spa Association’s Board of Directors, and a member of the American Academy of Anti Anti-Aging Medicine. As president of the International Medical Spa Association, he has spoken at numerous conferences. His presentations cover various aspects of business and marketing plan development, branding, and crisis management.
